MANIFESTATIONS IN THE LIGHT

The exhibition presents Rachel Garrard’s paintings and an installation in the Nave of St. Agnes, including the diptych JOURNEY THROUGH THE NIGHT, a floor grid of quartz powder with found objects arranged as glyphs, and a final mica-based painting whose appearance changes with light. Titled after the ancient Egyptian Pert em Hru (‘Coming Forth by Day’ or ‘Manifested in the Light’), the show uses mineral pigments (lapis lazuli, malachite, iron and ochres), geometry and found materials to trace a passage from matter to image to light and to examine navigation through transforming states of matter and light.
