THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF BEASTS
Monira Al Qadiri
Sep 9 - Nov 8 · Tue–Sun 11:00–18:00 and by appointment
Alexandrinenstraße 118-121, 10969 Berlin
The exhibition presents sculptures, video installations, and a virtual reality work that combine Egyptian mythology with contemporary technologies. Al Qadiri examines fragile relationships and power dynamics between humans, animals, and nature, raising questions about who is human or animal, where boundaries lie, and which hierarchies shape thought and action; the works were first shown in 2024 at Bozar in Brussels. Featured works include AUTOMATON (2024), two glossy black ready-made figures of the deities Khnum and Anubis; BOOK OF THE DEAD (2024), a video installation based on 3D scans and recitations from the Egyptian Book of the Dead; and AARU: AFTER LAMENT (2024), a virtual reality installation set in a wheat field that references ancient Egyptian concepts of paradise and a flood that may be read as a reference to the contemporary climate crisis.
