What the Light Becomes
Kehinde Wiley
Nov 6 - Dec 23 · Tue-Fri 11:00-18:00, Sat 10:00-18:00
475 10th Avenue, New York, NY 10018
The exhibition presents new paintings, oil studies on paper, and a film that follows several of the individuals portrayed. The works are portraits of contemporary New Yorkers, selected through chance encounters on the street and photographed in the clothing they were wearing (with select elements added by Nigerian stylist Ugo Mozie). Wiley uses Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons as a framework to consider transition, renewal, and New York as a diverse, continually remade portrait of America.
