Solid Light, 1973, 2020, 2026

The exhibition presents three solid-light works by Anthony McCall: Line Describing a Cone (1973), Skylight (2020), and the premiere of Swarm (2026). These installations convert projected light into volumetric sculptural forms that viewers can enter and move through; Line Describing a Cone is a 16mm projected installation that over thirty minutes traces the outline of a circle to form a luminous cone in a haze-filled room. Skylight (2020) is a vertical projection from above onto a plinth with a sixteen-minute score by David Grubbs, and Swarm (2026) comprises two conical light volumes rotating in opposite directions over fifteen minutes with a soundtrack by David Grubbs (performed by Chris McIntyre).
