L'Essence du portrait

Thaddaeus Ropac Paris Marais presents Irving Penn: L'Essence du portrait (7 November 2026–30 January 2027), an exhibition of Irving Penn's photographic portraits. It includes works from an early portrait of Marcel Duchamp to a photograph of Elizabeth Peyton, and features images of John Cage, Willem de Kooning and Pablo Picasso; the page notes that Penn photographed Picasso at his Cannes home after an assistant scaled a locked gate, capturing a starkly lit face with a single wide-open eye. The exhibition will coincide with PENN & FASHION at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie and The World According to Penn at the Bourse de Commerce—Pinault Collection in Paris.
