Seeing in Blue

Seeing in Blue is an exhibition of new paintings by Torkwase Dyson at Pace Gallery’s 540 West 25th Street, on view September 11–October 24, 2026. The works are inspired by Dyson’s expeditions and sensory experiences as a deep‑sea diver and explore questions of distance, light, perception, symbiosis, and planetary transformation; they are informed by haptic memories, diagrammatic drawings, engineering notes, photo journal entries, and process poems. Dyson’s studio process begins on the floor with translucent washes that pool and layer and moves toward detailed geometric constructions using curvilinear forms, shaped wooden panels, strings, and hardware, and the paintings address themes of ecology, black geography, built environments, and oceanic infrastructure and politics.
