Sugarshack

Salim Green’s father describes the abandoned or deteriorating homes in his hometown of Waterloo, Iowa as “sugarshacks.” Green borrowed the term for his first exhibition at Société, which recreates the fellowship hall at Payne Memorial AME, a church in the city’s historically Black east side.
