Calida Rawles: Parallax

Calida Rawles: Parallax is an exhibition of new paintings at Lehmann Maupin in New York, on view October 15–November 14, 2026 (extended hours Thursday, October 29, 6–8 PM). The exhibition centers on a series of three paintings based on photographs Rawles took of her youngest daughter in a pool, with images captured within seconds as Rawles moved around her to record the same moment from shifting positions and perspectives. Rawles situates Black subjects in dynamic, fluid environments and uses water, light, and abstraction to explore parallax and questions of identity, memory, healing, and belonging.
