ROT GELB BLAU STAUB

The exhibition presents twelve large-format oil canvases arranged in four groups of three, the artist’s first quadriptych, a still life, and a selection of works on paper from across the last thirty years shown on the upper floor. Moritz’s practice in the exhibition spans abstraction and figuration, with twelve new paintings loosely inspired by the four elements (fire, air, earth, water) and a monumental quadriptych in which female bodies emerge from gestural paint. The works on paper include figurative motifs such as helicopters, ships, apartment blocks, flowers and the figure of a child, some of which relate to the artist’s childhood in the GDR and to broader historical and political iconography.
