The exhibition presents twelve large-format photographs from Thomas Ruff’s jpegs ny series, derived from images of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001, on view at David Zwirner’s 533 West 19th Street location (September 10–October 17, 2026). Ruff sourced images from the internet in 2004 and digitally transformed them—often increasing compression, lowering pixel density, and adding color—producing overtly pixelated, sometimes almost abstract prints that remain legible at a distance; the series was conceived by the artist as a commemoration of that day. Prior to the New York presentation, this group of works was shown as part of Unlimited at Art Basel 2026, and other editions from jpegs ny are held in several museum collections.
