Hanging Out

Nate Lowman

Sep 10 - Oct 24 · Mon–Fri, 10am–6pm

525 West 19th Street, New York, NY 10011

The exhibition presents a new body of shaped canvases by Nate Lowman that take the form of keys, ranging from tightly rendered replicas to more schematic, nearly abstract forms and often hung serially. The works treat the key both as an object and a metaphor—addressing access, security, exclusion, duplication, transfer, and dilution—and include pieces derived from the artist’s photographs (such as graffiti at the Bouboulina Museum and names scratched into a bench and tree in Rio) as well as references to hardware-store novelty finishes and found advertisements for keys.
